A freshman at Austin Peay State University recently was crowned Miss Tennessee Teen in the National American Miss Pageant, held Sept. 3-5 in Franklin.

Sarah Gross competed with approximately 50 young women in the teen division. She had a community involvement portion worth 10 percent; personal interviews, 30 percent; personal introduction, 30 percent; and formal wear, 30 percent.

A graduate of Northwest High School in Clarksville, Gross helped establish the Viking Pantry and the Viking Closet, both designed to help students needing extra food at home or clothing for school where she was active in the Drama Club and Northwest Review.

She is the daughter of Edward Gross, a security guard in the 365bet Department of Public Safety. Her mother, Susan, also worked for the University and her aunt, Darlene Thomas, retired from the University in 2009 after 21 years. -- Melony Shemberger
